Acceleration’s Response to Spectre and Meltdown

Update: Thursday, January 11th, 2018

Acceleration completed patching of our VMware cloud services platform which run all guest virtual servers in the early hours of January 10th, but we continue to wait for hardware firmware updates to be released to finalize the mitigation of the Spectre and Meltdown exploits. As soon as these patches become available we will have them deployed and will provide a final update, so please check back for updates regarding this matter.

Due to the recently discovered exploits by Google’s Project Zero team known as Spectre and Meltdown, which affect nearly all modern CPUs, and due to the fact that these vulnerabilities have the potential to allow an attacker to gather sensitive data from a host, Acceleration decided late on Monday (January 8th) to take immediate action to deploy a patch available to us at that time to our cloud computing environment ahead of traditional patching schedules and without a notice provided to our clients. We apologize for any service interruptions that may have occurred as a result, but felt it was absolutely necessary in order to keep client data safe and secure.

Additional patches were released today (January 9th), which means we will need to deploy these new patches during the late evening hours, after midnight Eastern Time. Service interruption should be minimal (15-30 minutes).

Acceleration is committed to the safe-keeping of client data and will continue to monitor for vulnerabilities that may affect our clients. If you have any questions that you would like to ask Acceleration, please feel free to contact us, or if you are interested in learning more about the Spectre and Meltdown exploits, here are a few articles that explain the exploits in detail:

Thank you, Acceleration
